Wrecked Plans

So here we are. T-minus 14 hours until I show up to training camp, say goodbye to my parents, and put all the months and months (…and months!) of preparation to the test. Well. . . Sort of:     Being the type-A personality that I am, I love having things ready in advance. Last March I had everything figured out to go on my journey to Nepal. I even knew what the street names were and the best place to get Momos (The street vendor near Thamel is where I’m told)! Am I Being “Jonah”

I was sitting at The Well, a Christian ministry on campus. James, the speaker, said, “Some of you need to go on a mission trip, like next semester. It’s what God wants you to do.” I leaned over to my friend Sam and said, “Hey, that’s what I’m doing!” He replied, “Is this what God wants you to do or are you being Jonah?” What he was really telling me was, “Is this what God is calling you to do or are you running away from your problems like Jonah did in the Bible?” I was taken back by this question, but it was the hard truth that...

Expect the Unexpected

On Sunday, my team and I went to a small church here in Korat. Yoyo, our host, spoke on expecting the unexpected. When leaving for this trip, my team and I thought our ministry was going to be emphasized towards women being trafficked. Once we arrived, we were told we will be travelling to villages to work with kids on Tuesdays, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s we will be teaching English to kids at different schools for...

Tight Rope

“You trust God, don’t you?” She said. I caught my breath and nervously looked away. “Uh, I…uh…yeah?”  I couldn’t believe a simple “Yes” was so hard to utter in this moment. “I guess it’s something I need to talk with Him more about, and work on.” My team leader, Kristen, responded,  “I definitely think you need to remind yourself, whenever your worries come to mind, to tell God, ‘I trust you.’ Write it on your hand, don’t forget to say it until you believe it.” (I’m paraphrasing,...
