On Sunday, my team and I went to a small church here in Korat. When we got there, we were asked to sing a song, so we winged it and sang How Great is Our God (and may I say, we did pretty good for literally last minute preparation). Yoyo, our host, spoke on expecting the unexpected.
When leaving for this trip, my team and I thought our ministry was going to be emphasized towards women being trafficked. Once we arrived, we were told we will be travelling to villages to work with kids on Tuesdays, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s we will be teaching English to kids at different schools for English Camp, Friday nights we will be going to a park where many prostitutes go and spend about two hours there, Saturday’s we will teach English at the café we are living at, Sunday’s we will be going to various churches in Korat, and Monday’s will be our off days.
Completely unexpected.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”- Isaiah 55:8-9.
Clearly, God chose us to be here and only he knows why. He knew long before we did that we would be doing more children’s ministry than women’s ministry. He didn’t change his mind at the last minute, this was all part of his perfect plan.
Expect the unexpected. Don’t think that you have it all together, do not have a set plan for anything. If God changes your path, trust him. He knows more than we could ever imagine.
I am confused as to why I am here in Thailand, as to why my life was (somewhat) wrecked for me to come here, just to find out I’m not doing exactly what I believed I would be doing and what I told people I would be doing.
So I take a deep breath, close my eyes, and say, “Jesus, I trust you with this.”
With love,
Rach
