It Was All Worth It

June 29th was a miraculous day. We put on a Teen Camp and the previous night I wrote in my journal how I hated that the kids didn’t know Christ. I wrote, “Please help them draw nearer to You. Amen.” God answered my prayer. We were asked to pray over the teens as we felt called, and on June 29th, multiple teens stepped forward to accept Christ into their lives. There was one group of basketball boys who I felt particularly close to, but only two of them had a relationship with Christ. I was praying over one teen when I turned around to see that the chairs where the basketball...

I have saved my clothes from goats

In the Dominican Republic, not only have I saved my clothes from goats, but I have done a lot of other things as well…   I have slept with demon bugs flying around my room. I have lived with my phone on airplane mode. (It’s possible). I have bathed in a river. I have washed my clothes in that same river. I have saved those same clothes from goats. I have woken up every morning at 5:30 to the sound of chickens squawking out my window. I have heard 3 languages being translated/prayed at the same time. I have thrown my leftover chicken to chickens…(sorry chickens). I have...

More than Money, Education, or Success, there’s HOPE

Once again, I find myself relocated to a new home. On June 7th, I arrived in the Dominican Republic with 38 lbs of belongings, a team of 18 girls (including myself and my co-leader), and an incredible excitement for the coming month. In our first week here, I have hiked through the steep mountainside, showered in a waterfall, spoken my broken Spanish with the Dominicans, and eaten rice and beans multiple times a day. My legs are covered with bug bites and my body with sweat, but my heart is full of joy and love for my team and the people here. My team and I have spent this past week completing...

God Talks, We Just Need To Listen

Yesterday during team time we were handed a note card with a number on it. Each person was assigned a number but we didn’t know who corresponded with the numbers. We were told to pray over the card and write what we had for the person, so we had to trust God to tell us what to write. I was handed a purple card with the number nine. I immediately thought of my dad since he passed away on August 9th. However, I didn’t want to write about the lose of a father because not many people can relate. But I kept feeling a tug. Finally, I wrote about how even if we feel without an earthly Father,...

Demons exist…

It is currently our fourth day in the Dominican Republic and I could not be more excited to be here. Yes, we may all have 20+ bites from bugs all down our legs, we may all be sweating buckets, and we may all be burnt to crisp from the sun, but we are full of joy. There is an energy that radiates from this place that can only be that of God. We have two sets of devotions every day, along with team time, and a Bible study before breakfast. God is here. And He is moving. Fast. He has already engulfed each one of us not only spiritually, but physically as...

Safe in the DR!

Our Summer 2016 team officially arrived in the D.R. on Tuesday, June 7’th! The team was very excited to be in the Dominican after a long flight delay in New York. The team will spend the coming days getting introduced to their ministry, coming to know the culture, and finding a routine for the months ahead.   They will be getting internet within the week so that they can communicate home and share more about what their days and weeks will look like.  Until then, we wanted to let you know that all is well.  Hope that you’re as excited to follow along with their adventure...
