A Common Theme

Over the past month I have listened to my teammates and taken most of their words with an open heart and mind. It is through these people that I have heard some of the most encouraging things and truly have seen God work through them. I say this because some of my words in this particular post were first heard through them. As Christians we have two jobs: To love God To love people Here in this place all I have felt, everyday, even in the early mornings and late nights is love. As I reflect on the days that have come and gone I am happy to say that in every step I have taken, love...

Through It All

The past week has flown by. In the moment, it has been difficult to recognize where God was working. Though I knew God was present, it was taking a little more effort on my part to seek Him. Only through my recent reflection and quiet time have I been able to see a revelation in how God has been working over the course of my entire trip. God has managed to change my heart and open my eyes. Let me preface this by saying that I have had a wonderful time in my ministry in Costa Rica. I have learned to seek the glory of God no matter where I was. Most of my ministry was a joy but some I struggled...

Good things come to those who wait

Patience has always been a characteristic that I would never use to describe my personality. If anything I would say I am one of the most impatient people I have met so far in my 19 years of life. God has tested this characteristic in me throughout these past three weeks. Example A: Yesterday we took a prayer walk through the community and passed out fruit to all the people out and about. One of my teammates is extremely gifted in being able to communicate with the people here and it is very encouraging to watch her interact with others. On this particular day though my impatience got the best...

A New Perspective

One week down in Costa Rica and I have learned so many things. I have learned that the people here value relationship over religion. I have learned that it rains just about everyday in the afternoon. I have learned that there are lots of bugs, especially ants. The fruits we buy at home are casually growing in trees in peoples’ yards. Coffee beans are green until they are roasted. The coffee here is fantastic. There are several active volcanoes in Costa Rica. San Jose is bustling. The list goes on forever. One of the most important things I have learned about this trip is flexibility. We...

I am love.

I am love. Three simple words with so much meaning. For a very long time, I had such a hard time understanding my self-worth. In school, I often fell victim to a lot of bullying, which obviously did a number on how I viewed myself and who I was as a person. And after all of my confidence had been completely demolished from that season in my life, it took a while for me even to attempt to build it back up again. Something that I have always struggled with is loving myself and trying to comprehend why God would ever love someone like me. I had been told by my peers that I was worthless,...
