God’s Grace Brought Me Here

I can’t believe I’m already three weeks into this journey! These past two weeks in Sielmat have been unforgettable, and on Monday we will be moving to a new location in the hills in the southwestern part of Manipur. I think this entry from my journal this morning sums up my feelings about this place well!   I am sitting here on a moss-cushioned, snail-strewn brick wall on a hill in a piney forest in Northeast India. How did I get here? I sit in silence and close my eyes and listen. The roosters are calling to each other, the bugs are softly screaming overhead, children are...

Stillness

I’m starting to understand what it means to be still, I’m not talking about no body movements type of still. Something far more meaningful is what I am leaning towards. Since training camp the good Lord has been teaching me a lot about myself. That is, He has pointed out to me that I’m a terrible listener and that I have a very busy mind along with being a busy body (thanks mom). I appreciate my time reading and journaling alone, since these last couple of weeks I don’t receive much of that so I’m defiantly learning how to pick and choose my times of...

I Hear the Rolling Thunder

Ever since I was little, I have loved thunderstorms. Back at my New England home, they were something of a treat in the summertime evenings when me and my family would gather in our upstairs storage room and look out the windows overlooking our backyard. We would crane our heads around the windows, looking for the first brief flashes of the lightning, then dutifully count the Mississippis until we heard that great rolling of thunder, which shook the house. They never fail to instill a great awe in me. It was my representation of what God was. An invisible force that moves through...

“Just In Case You Wondered Why I’m Here…”

The greatest irony is this: To truly live, you must die. To be the best you, you must be less you and more of Love. In fact, isn’t that why Christ was proven to be God? He was 100% pure love at all times towards all people, and, as the Scriptures say, “God is Love”. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as...

The Art of Slowing Down

Growing up in an environment that was always on the go, it was very challenging to come to a completely different pace of life. The earth and the people in it seemed to slow down. As the team and I walked through the markets we would wave to the people who lived there and they got so excited to see us and that we took the time to greet and smile at them. It was so different from what I was used to because at home people are too busy to stop and say hello. The entire atmosphere is unlike any other I’m used to. Since the pace is slower it allows you to stop and look around and...
