Following Where He Leads Me

A few weeks ago was Father’s Day….This is day that has always been a struggle for me. I grew up without a Dad (which is definitely a key part in my testimony). At training camp we went through many different sessions, one of them being about forgiveness… wow did this one hit a sore spot in my heart. I was still bitter towards my Dad and unwilling to forgive him for what he had done. I was drinking poison hoping it would hurt him. Once I finally decided to listen to Gods voice (that had been there all along) He said, “You need to forgive him”. I felt my heart...

Dear Me

Dear Future Kendra, How have you been girl? Hopefully you have settled back home well and enjoyed a few salads and smoothies (instead of the mysterious mayonnaise and fries sandwiches the Bulgarians seem to love here). I am currently writing you from Bulgaria, where the summer temperatures have reached the 100s and the air conditioning is no where to be found…I’m surprised our Chacos haven’t melted in to the cement yet. On the bright side, this gives us more of an excuse to stop by the local gelato cart in town. I’m writing this letter to remind you of some amazing...

Beautiful.

Yesterday I was sitting with a couple young boys, listening to Moana (wow these kids love Moana). Noel, who could quite possibly be the sweetest and kindest 10 year old boy I’ve ever met, was sitting to my right. He swept my hair from my shoulder so he could lean closer and see my phone screen. My hair fell back. So I grabbed it and threw it to my other shoulder. Noel then lightly runs his fingers through my hair, brings it back, and says, in the sweetest voice, “Beautiful”. Beautiful.  That’s what I’ve realized life here in Nicaragua is....

My Life Of Many Jars

For the past two weeks I have been teaching English at a Catholic school. It’s mostly an all girls school, but there are some boys in the younger grades. My group mostly taught with the older girls 6th grade- 12th grade. Each day we walked into the class and the girls would go crazy. Some would scream because they were just so excited to see us. I felt like a famous person walking into a meet and greet with their fans. We would introduce ourselves and play a little game. Then we would break up the class into small groups, so they could ask us questions to improve their English. I sat...

A Common Theme

Over the past month I have listened to my teammates and taken most of their words with an open heart and mind. It is through these people that I have heard some of the most encouraging things and truly have seen God work through them. I say this because some of my words in this particular post were first heard through them. As Christians we have two jobs: To love God To love people Here in this place all I have felt, everyday, even in the early mornings and late nights is love. As I reflect on the days that have come and gone I am happy to say that in every step I have taken, love...

Bulgaria

Hello from Bulgaria! As you all know, or may not know, the Phenomenal Six have arrived here in Dupnitsa safe and sound. We have been blessed beyond measure by our amazing hosts with a home and other accommodations. Upon arriving and setting foot in foreign land, we were faced with jet lag and homesickness. However, after adjusting through the first week, we have been able to put everything we have into our ministry. Our first week of ministry consisted of a lot of construction work in a 100-year-old factory that our pastor is renovating into a neighborhood church. There, we cleared wood out...
