Guatever

As I have lived in Guatemala what now seems like only a few days I have discovered a lot about myself and about God. First I discovered how truly powerful and great our God is. Secondly, I discovered that I’m not perfect and never will be. Also I discovered how the bare minimum soon became a home for 28 people. In this first week I’ve seen a local on a bus give his life to Christ. I’ve prayed over Guatemalans, prayed over our home, and put a pretty strong faith in Christ. For a while I felt that I wasn’t supposed to come to Guatemala. I thought that it wasn’t...

This is where God wanted me

I remember when I got accepted to this trip I was so excited. That was back in February, and in the months leading up to this trip that excitement dwindled. I got busy, and when I got busy the trip fell to the back of my mind. Every once in a while I thought about it and felt guilty that I wasn’t more excited so I would tell everyone about it and pray a lot and research the culture. It wasn’t real though, I didn’t give it the respect it deserved. The day before training camp I still didn’t feel energized, I didn’t feel like this trip was something that I needed...

Dear Me

Dear Future Kendra, How have you been girl? Hopefully you have settled back home well and enjoyed a few salads and smoothies (instead of the mysterious mayonnaise and fries sandwiches the Bulgarians seem to love here). I am currently writing you from Bulgaria, where the summer temperatures have reached the 100s and the air conditioning is no where to be found…I’m surprised our Chacos haven’t melted in to the cement yet. On the bright side, this gives us more of an excuse to stop by the local gelato cart in town. I’m writing this letter to remind you of some amazing lessons...

Bulgaria

Hello from Bulgaria! As you all know, or may not know, the Phenomenal Six have arrived here in Dupnitsa safe and sound. We have been blessed beyond measure by our amazing hosts with a home and other accommodations. Upon arriving and setting foot in foreign land, we were faced with jet lag and homesickness. However, after adjusting through the first week, we have been able to put everything we have into our ministry. Our first week of ministry consisted of a lot of construction work in a 100-year-old factory that our pastor is renovating into a neighborhood church. There, we cleared wood out...

Be a Pebble

At training camp, one of our leaders, Evan, took a few of the girls down by a pond. He picked up a pebble and threw it into the water. He then asked us,” What made all the ripples?” We, of course, answered, “The pebble.” Wrong. He explained that the pebble only made the first ripple; that ripple then made a ripple, that made a ripple, and so on. The pebble only made one ripple, but it had a huge impact. So many of us had such high expectations for what this trip was going to be like and what we wanted to get out of it. During our first month of ministry, most of us lost...
