Mended

I sat down on a broken bus seat and my world changed once again. Life as I had known it for the past month was coming to a halt. I became overwhelmed with emotions at the thought of not returning to the village. I fell so in love with the community and atmosphere, it literally shattered my heart to leave. There are no words to describe how it felt to say good bye. There’s no way to describe how it feels to look an orphan in the face, tell them you love them and then leave them (again). It hurts. It hurts so badly. Whereas the pain is so real, I’m beyond thankful for the...

Beauty in Obedience

“Whoever obeys His command will come to no harm, and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure.” Ecclesiastes 8:5 In my last blog post I mentioned something that is low key amazing and shocking at the same time–that the Lord used me to heal one of my teammates. Well, sometimes beautiful things come out of the obedience of following where the Lord leads us. Here’s how the night played out. It was a Saturday night, the last night of September, and the day after receiving some pretty encouraging words from family and friends about silence being a place of...

Experiencing the Potter

My Jesus is not a microwave Jesus. First off, you may be thinking: “okay what the absolute HECK did this girl just write? Jesus does not belong in the microwave!” Well, yes, I know this, but hang on for a second while I explain my odd expression. In our society, we expect a certain level of efficiency. Faster is better. The more quickly I can get my popcorn to pop in the microwave the happier I am as a human, and the faster I can get my double double animal style at In-n-Out, the better–am I right? Sometimes, we expect God to work the same way; everything that we...

Just A Feeling

Wednesday we arrived in Bangkok, Thailand. Even thought I feel as if only my body is here, but the rest of me is still in Cambodia. We left Kampong Cham on Monday, and stayed in Siem Reap that night and Tuesday, leaving Wednesday morning. While Siem Reap was beautiful and so much fun, giving me the time of my life, I sill felt as though I was missing something. I cried all Sunday, knowing I was going to be leaving my friends. I cried all Monday, missing the faces I had found so much joy with. And I cried Tuesday, not knowing why I was still crying. And I cried Wednesday, scared of...

Our Month in South Africa

Wow, this past month has flown by. As I am writing this blog, I have spent a total of 22 days in South Africa. We had three full weeks of ministry, many hours of training, worship sessions, and many adventures. Each day brought something new. I am so blessed to of had the opportunity to partner with Impact Africa. They are an incredible organization that I would love to partner with in the future. South Africa is a very interesting country. It is First-World and Third-World and I have gotten to experience both.   The majority of our ministry here in South Africa was outreach into the...

I’ve Been Running

Recently, my beautiful, remarkably persistent, leader, Danielle, insisted that I join her for a jog. Danielle: “Just to the bridge, and back! A mile and a half.”Me: “Sure, okay. Why not?” (Note: Read this in an annoyingly naïve voice.) Let me tell you “why not”: It’s miserably hot, and deathly humid. Thanks to AIM’s “lovely” dress code, this war will be fought in long pants. Frogs, snakes and tarantulas. Need I say more? Yet, despite endless complaining, and extreme paranoia, I stumbled along, drenched in sweat. A dog chased...
