Week 2 on the Island

Hello all, Week 2 on Ometepe island has been an incredible one as we have started to settle into life here. My body is sorta getting used to the heat, even though I can’t seem to stop sweating. I drink lots of water and am staying hydrated. The week started out by going to church and it was all kinds of different. The church is a building with holes in the walls for Windows, fans and plastic chairs. The songs are all memorized so no need to put words up, everything was in Spanish so I didn’t really need to worry about it. Most of the songs they sang I knew the English version so...

Made New

For the last couple days I’ve been doing labor ministry.. including scrubbing walls, moving furniture, or painting. I don’t mind it, but it is hardwork. I’ve been scrubbing so much that my team and I joke that I’m going to open a wall scrubbing company when I get back to the states and if they can’t find any other job or college doesn’t work out than I’ll let them work for my company. Anyways, today I was scrubbing a dirt ridden metal window frame, when I wiped away the dirt and grime my friend said,” It looks brand new!”As I’ve...

Church in South Africa

My team and I had our first church service in Africa on Sunday. Sunday is our rest day for the week, so there were two options. We could go to the service in the morning in a different town and also go to the service in Oceanview in the evening, or only go to the service in Oceanview. The rest of my team chose to stay home in the morning, but I went to church with our contact. The minute I stepped inside was the first time since we got here that I had the thought “I’m definitely in Africa again.”    There really is nothing like church in Africa. It is usually...

Week 1 on the Island

Hello all,I am going to show you just a little of what I have been doing the past week. This week has been the an amazing, emotional time. I got to the airport on the 1st of September and waited for a few hours as the rest of the people started to come in from all around the country. When we got to training camp I had an idea of what it would be like and I was mostly wrong. Training camp brought me closer to the Lord and I cried so much because the Lord was preparing me for the next 3 months. I am so happy to have been part of that experience and that was just 4 days! Monday morning we...

The Real Exposure

A little over a month ago, I would have literally cried tears of joy if someone had handed me a cup of coffee from a Keurig with real creamer in it. Today, I am well immersed back into American culture, and I use my Keurig more times a day than I would like to admit. It was too easy to come straight back into my life before the trip. I forgot what it felt like during the trip to be so thankful for the questionable food I was about to eat. I forgot how to completely rely on the Lord for strength through the weight of exhaustion. I forgot the pure joy that I could feel just from a simple cup...
