What does a Mustard Seed got to do with Missions?

“He said therefore, ‘What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.'” Luke 13:18-19 For those of you who may not know, I was called last year to team up with a missions organization to go to Costa Rica for two months this summer. Due to logistics, I was called instead to Nepal, and then due to the earthquake, my team eventually found ourselves with plane tickets to India and Thailand. We spent June...

Worth It

“To be Thai is to be Buddhist”   The phrase describes the deep connection of the culture of Thailand and Buddhism. I love the Thai hospitality, the smiles, and the deep respect of elders, but Buddha can’t hold a candle to Jesus. That’s why today was so incredible. Broken Pieces

“Todo, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” Or in this case, India. We have been in Chaiyaphum, Thailand for 10 days. And just like India, Thailand has its way of amazing me. To the night markets that are in the middle of the week, to random dancing festivals in rice patties, to elephants meeting you at the gate of your house, to fitting ten people in the bed of a truck for more than an hour’s drive, even in the rain.   The first night we rolled up onto the dirt driveway, we got out of the car just enough to stretch and then headed straight for the heavenly...

The Other Side of the Dirt Road

I was in shock— Not about what I saw about I saw, but about how I felt about it.   What I saw was horrific. I was walking in the city down a dirt road with a railroad track on one side and a collection of ____ on the other side. I guess they function as homes so they could be called that. But these are pathetic. They seem to be a collection of sticks, tarps, and buckets arranged in the rough form of a tent. Most Americans wouldn’t let their dog stay in a structure like this in their backyard. In fact, if you woke up and found one of these in your backyard, I imagine you would...
