His Eyes and His Ears

I’ve been learning a lot about truly listening. Here I am surrounded by orphans hungry for attention. My team covers these children in love and it still never feels like enough–they crave our hugs, our words of affirmation, our time. It breaks my heart open for them.  Many of them don’t know what it is to have an authority figure pursue them and fight for their hearts, and I want so badly to be able to fill that hole only Jesus can fill. When I am with them, it cannot be about me.  The instant I allow my perspective and my priorities shift to myself, I have lost...

Wax

I am learning to be wax. Soft, soft wax before a fire. Hot wax that runs as if it were water. This fluidity wrecks me! The Lord wrecks me and melts me and molds me into a new creation! I have established a pretty decent routine here in Cambodia. Wake up at 4:30AM, morning prayer in a language I do not understand, breakfast at 7:00AM, and on. Every bit of me fights this routine. This routine melts my independence! But Micah 1:4 says that even the mountains will melt under the Lord. Mountains! Under this heat, the mountains rush and run like rivers. Only God can do that! As wax, I have...

When This Is Nothing What You Wanted

Saying yes to this trip was something that I did out of an extremely small ounce of faith. I did not want to leave my life at home. Home has all the people I love, the things I love to do, and the place where I feel safe. However, I decided to say yes to the road less traveled. Did I realize that at the time? No. Do I realize this now? Yes. Training camp started off rough. I did not want to be...

Summary of the First week

Good morning amazing people!      I want to try something different with this blog thing. Before I left on this trip I was challenged by my masterful Mother to take 2 pictures a day since I am not really a picture taker. This sparked an idea to go along with that. What if I make 2 blogs a week, one full of stories and one full of pictures and beautiful words. This also gives me deadlines so I actually write blogs. So the plan is to have Truthful Tuesdays where I will tell stories and struggles, and Cinematic Saturdays where I will have word pictures and...
