Two months in Guatemala!!!!

Hey family and friends! I know it’s been a while since my last blog post and I am sooo sorry. I’m going to try and fit the last three weeks in a single blog post, so this may look a bit longer than the others.

It’s official! I’ve been in Guatemala for exactly two months, and Guatemala City for three weeks!!! The Lord has shown my team and I some beautiful stuff since we’ve shown up at YWAM. (YWAM stands for Youth With A Mission, look them up, they’re legit). These weeks have been packed with different missionary opportunities, a lot of new experiences and a good amount of pruning. While they haven’t been the easiest, they were filled with great lessons. Our weekly set schedule is easy to follow although it took a bit to get use to it.

Mondays- Acts bible study with YWAM staff, ministry prep in the morning, break for lunch, prayer walk around the Quiché/Mayan ritual ground (also known as the land of death in the native language, appealing, right?)
Tuesdays- Acts bible study with YWAM staff, Intercession Prayer, Bible Distribution,Teen Challenge (THEY HAVE TEEN CHALLENGE IN GUATEMALA HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!)
Wednesdays- Acts bible study with YWAM staff, children’s ministry at a day care, house visits
Thursdays – Acts bible study with YWAM staff, La Liña (will explain more below about this specific ministry!), Teen Challenge (occasionally Ronald McDonald house)
Fridays – Book study, Base Cleaning, serving, base projects, maintenance.
Saturdays – Occasionally a ministry called Generations where we host 2-23 year olds at the base and teach them about the love fo God. The ministry runs from 10am until 5pm. Before lunch we “Know Him” and after lunch we “Make Him Known”!!!!
Sundays – Church & Our Free days.

[I talk about the following in the video- but just in case it won’t load I’ve wrote it out!]

Okay sweet now we got the “what are you up to in Gmala?” Outta the way.

To be honest, our first week was overwhelming, and being surrounded by the same 11 people literally 24/7 was (is sometimes) exhausting. Now keep in mind that I am as extrovert as extroverts get but God’s been pruning me on how to be “slow to speak” and “quick to listen”. #GettingReal. He’s also been showing me the beauty in vulnerability. Did you know we aren’t created to do things alone? Did you know that a good, Godly community is biblical and necessary? Did you know that it’s totally okay to ask for help when you need it? So did I – until I had to put it into practice, pride and all, being completely independent for the first time in my 18 years of life, in a foreign country with complete strangers. It hasn’t been the smoothest ride but I rest assured that when done correctly, being vulnerable is a very beautiful thing.

Another thing God’s been showing me? Women’s ministry is wonderful. It may not look like the most fruitful ministry, but it is some type of awesome. La Liña is the name of our women’s ministry.
