Don’t Put God in Your Little Box (Especially When You Have the Flu)

One thing I’ve learned already from the start of training camp to when we landed in Guatemala, is that you cannot put God in your little box.  I’ve always known and said, “You are the God of the impossible! Nothing can stand against you!” But when you’re actually in a situation where you have to really believe that, it’s not always as easy to say.    When I first arrived at training camp in Gainesville, I started feeling terribly sick, but I thought it was just my nerves, so I didn’t say anything.  It got worse after the second...

How Africa Changed Me In Less Than A Week

Africa: Week 1 We are in Africa! It is very surreal. When we hopped off the plane at the small airport in Livingstone, I felt like I was in a different world. In all reality, it really is a different world then the United States. Our wonderful hosts picked us up at the airport and took us to our home for the month. We unpacked and set up our rooms, made some dinner, and I took my first ever bucket shower. This is where you take a large cup from a big bucket of water, and essentially keep wetting yourself down until the shower is somewhat complete. It is not like the hot showers we get in...

Journey Up the Mountain

Today was our off first off day in Guatemala, so we decided to take a took took as far as it would go up the mountain outside of Chichi and then hike the rest of the way up. Along the way, we met two kids that came running up the mountain from their house to see us. They were so excited to see us and talk to us, and they told us that their family owned an apple farm on the side of the mountain.    We kept tracking up the mountain and were about at the top, but we weren’t sure exactly which road led to the top. We met another girl named Elsa. She talked with Andrea for a...

Cat Ministry

Hello friends! Welcome to my first blog. It is currently the end of week 1 of my three month stay in Guatemala. For the first month, we are staying in a town called Chichicastenango. It’s a beautiful little mountain town that is rich in Mayan culture. We flew into Guatemala City on Monday, January 30.  From there we had a four hour drive to Chichi. We got in a big van and tied our luggage to the top, and unfortunately it started pouring rain. When we arrived that evening in Chichi, all of our clothes, pillows, sleeping bags, etc. were wet. With everything smelling like mildew,...

Have You Ever Seen The Wonder?

Y’all! We made it to our new home for the next month about 5 days ago. I cannot express in words how stoked I am for this next season of my life. I have been waiting six months for this very moment- to be back in Guatemala, to be immersed with the beautiful people, to be greeted by the biggest smiles, to be surrounded by roaring mountains, and to see God work in mighty, mighty ways. As we drove 4ish hours to the top of the mountain (literally), I tried taking in every single detail of Guatemala- from the painted walls, cool trees (@Channing), and billboards in the city, to the...
