Pain is Temporary

Pain and suffering are two words that humanity often uses to describe their emotions towards their lives. These two words can be defined differently by anyone who chooses to put these words into their vocabulary. Those who are Christians question why these two words are in their vocabulary, if they believe in the almighty God then shouldn’t they be saved from pain and suffering? This is where we fall short. During quiet time the past few days I find myself reading in 1 Peter. Peter wrote this letter for Christians everywhere in roughly A.D. 64. We see him begin with addressing, what...

I Am Not My Own

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I honestly am not a great blogger, probably not even a great writer. That doesn’t mean I do not love to write. I tried to blog when I went on a two week trip to Portland last year. I think I blogged the first day, and that is the end of that story. I promised myself that this trip, it would be the trip where I blog at least once a week. In this brief time that I have, I will try to pour my heart out into what has happened so far. I left Little Rock around seven a.m. the morning on the first. It was hard and I had a lot of emotions going through...

Greetings from Ghana!

Greetings from Ghana! The team has arrived safely at our ministry site and we are starting to settle in here. We are staying in a dorm style room on the site. Also on site are other volunteer houses, Faith Roots Academy School, dorms for the rescued children who live here, a cafeteria, a church and prayer room, and a small store where they sell ice cream. It is a beautiful place. We are in a very rural area surrounded by small hills. The weather has been quite hot and humid here since we arrived and it is taking us a while to acclimate. The first heavy rain we have experienced came today so...

Ghana!

Today I sit in a circle of women. Those who have been abused, left, forgotten; those who have seen pain beyond the realm of what we can imagine; those who have faced the decision of selling their children to stay alive. These women sit in silence with their foot on the pedal as they go about their daily rituals yet unphased by the radio news that we listen to. Playing aloud was the memorial service of a military man that had been stoned in the middle of the street for having his handgun on him while trying to purchase fruits in the market. I stand their still and pale at the thought of the...

I am love.

I am love. Three simple words with so much meaning. For a very long time, I had such a hard time understanding my self-worth. In school, I often fell victim to a lot of bullying, which obviously did a number on how I viewed myself and who I was as a person. And after all of my confidence had been completely demolished from that season in my life, it took a while for me even to attempt to build it back up again. Something that I have always struggled with is loving myself and trying to comprehend why God would ever love someone like me. I had been told by my peers that I was...
