My travel to Thailand began on June 3 when I drove down to Gainesville, Georgia with my parents. I was nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect, but by the end of the first evening, excitement began to replace the nervousness. I was able to get to know my team which consisted of of 5 other girls and my leader. I have been very blessed by them. There were multiple other teams also that were going to serve in other countries. I felt overwhelmingly blessed to be able to camp, learn, and worship with so many other young people who love the Lord. By the end of the four days, we were ready to leave for our countries.
I stepped aboard an airplane for the first time in my life on June 7. Flying is something that I had always dreamed of but I was not prepared for just how amazing it would be to see the world from so high! I will never forget who wonderful it was and will look forward to flying more in the future.
Of course, traveling to the other side of the world takes a long time. After nearly 20 hours of flying and 2 different planes, we finally arrived in Bankok, Thailand. Then we took an 11 hour bus ride to Pangton – our destination.
So here I am sitting in a coffee shop so that I can use their wifi. It is so different here. So many new smells, a new language, and even more humidity than eastern North Carolina. The locals are friendly and the roads are chaotic because of the many motorcycles. As we walk around the area, there are many food markets, clothing stores. Mixed in between all the other stores, there are many massage parlors and bars where we hope to minister. After training, traveling, and soaking in the culture, I am excited to see what the next few weeks will bring as we began to minister to the people around us.
