I Hear the Rolling Thunder

Ever since I was little, I have loved thunderstorms. Back at my New England home, they were something of a treat in the summertime evenings when me and my family would gather in our upstairs storage room and look out the windows overlooking our backyard. We would crane our heads around the windows, looking for the first brief flashes of the lightning, then dutifully count the Mississippis until we heard that great rolling of thunder, which shook the house. They never fail to instill a great awe in me. It was my representation of what God was. An invisible force that moves through everything, immaterial, but powerful, and indisputable.

For those brief few seconds when that wave of sound rolled over us, my family would stand in awe of the power of God. Now overseas in India, I see God’s thunder rolling over the land, not accompanied by dark clouds, but by the songs of the faithful multitude already in India that for ten days we have been working alongside, and who have strengthened my team and I, even as we serve and strengthen them. I see God’s lightning in the smiles of the people, and especially in the children, we meet and give the love of Christ to. God’s presence in this land is undisputable, and is on the move, shaking the foundations of India, as we watch and wait for his thunder to roll over this land.
