Reading has never been my strong suit or my first choice of how to spend time with God. I’ve always wished I enjoyed reading in general more than I do, maybe then I would enjoy reading the word. For the longest time, and still sometimes, I view it more as my “christian duty” rather than another way that God loves to spend time with us and talk to us. I always doubted that he would actually have something on his heart for me, even though everytime I invite him into it and ask him to speak to me, he does.
Too often my fear of not hearing from him keeps me from what he has for me that day. I’ve loved watching God change my heart about reading to spend time with him. He never holds back his heart when we ask for more of him.
I was reading in Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith–it is not yourselves, it is a gift from God–not by works, so no one can boast.
What that spoke to me is that our job is not to try and walk a straight and perfect line, or feel perfect and holy enough before stepping into what we feel God has called us to do, or who he has called us to be. Everything that God has called us to be and do is already inside of us, and we can activate that by stepping out and receiving it by faith through grace.
This concept seems so basic, yet again and again I find myself falling into the trap of performance and thriving for his love instead of accepting it as the gift he meant it to be.
God’s sweet reminders of this are just that, sweet. His love for us is immeasurable.
