Comfort?!

Hey, hey everyone! Well we made it to Cambodia on September 5th in the afternoon. After leaving Georgia on September 3rd at 7:00pm then flying for 13 and half hours, we had our first layover in Doha and flew for another 7 hours to Bangkok then our last flight to Siem Reip Cambodia! We then drove 4 hours to Kampong Cham to our 1st destination for the next month. We met the kids right away, and feel in love in a blink. Today is our 4th day and our love only grew stronger! We all know the word comfort. It could be as simply as being sweaty and can hop in the shower and change the...

His Mercies Are New

I yearn to fall in love with being uncomfortable. Yesterday a huge frog jumped out of the packing cube I keep my clean clothes in.  Last night I couldn’t fall asleep because it was so hot that my sleeping pad, mosquito net, and shorts clung to my sticky skin.  The dim light in our room went out on the second day, so after 6:00 pm we do everything in the dark.  I wake up at 3:30 am, stumble to the squatty potties, and brush my teeth while wolf spiders watch me from the walls.  I eat rice, mystery meat, and eggs for every meal.  I am startled from sleep at 1:00...

In the Chaos

Good MORNING fantastic people! The day goes well as I start this blog. I’m in Kampong Chaing in Cambodia with my team. (Speaking of which, I should probably introduce them. The group consists of 8 people including myself. Our leader is Alleigh who has been on the world race and 3 other passport trips so we have all the experience points there. Then there is Tori, Kayten, Christina, Jenna, Kari, Summer, and of course, me. You will get to know them a little bit through this blog but you should also check out their’s! They are under the South-East Asia Thailand/Cambodia 2018 trip.)...

So Big, Big, Big

Sues’day from Chonlorng, Cambodia! Life is so sweet here! So simple, so relational… hard, but so sweet! I see the Lord in the 5:00 sunrises and the 6:00 sunsets. I see the Lord in my sister, Sri Chien, who loves Preshu (Jesus) “so big, big, big”. I see the Lord in the pre-dawn worship. I see the Lord in my dear friend, Chet, who trusts the Lord and declares His faithfulness with all of his being. I take bucket showers, use squatty potties (not the most conducive, by any means), and tangle myself in a mosquito net each night, BUT the Lord is so good and so big, big,...

Rid Me Of Myself

It’s my first day on the field at New Hope For Orphans in Kampung Cham, Cambodia.   As I am sitting on a tiled bench anchored in the dirt, chickens nibbling around my feet, and sweat already forming on my back at a ripe 6:30AM — as unknown sounds of foreign animals vie for my attention and smoky aromas fill my lungs, my mind can’t help but recognize how there is absolutely nothing comfortable about this scene. There is nothing comfortable about taking a bucket shower without opening my mouth. There is nothing comfortable about cocooning my sleeping pad in a...
