Priorities

What are your priorities? This question has echoed in my head since hearing an amazing message at training camp. You don’t realize how important it is to have set priorities until your life looks completely different because you are now living on a continent called Africa. Everyday is so different from the last. Even if we are doing the same ministry over and over, it never feels the same. And it definitely doesn’t feel normal. With each new task put in front of me I am challenged to push myself out of my comfort zone and make the most of each moment. But I’m finding that it...

Hope Through Hardship

Hardship and hopelessness – two struggles I’ve seen too much in Africa, especially here in Zimbabwe. When locals find out we are from America, we are typically bombarded with questions. People are longing for security and clinging to the little hope that they have. Some of them think they would be able to find that peace and security in possessions or people (especially us as Americans). Some of them are content with where they are and hopeful of what’s to come. And some of them don’t think they will ever find peace and security. I wish I could give every person I talk...

A Call To Love

So in my quiet time this morning God gave me a call to love… here is how it went. (Italics is directly what God had said.) My heart breaks for the state of the world. Ever since Adam and Eve I weep for the world. You are My children and I want you to be with Me. I want you all to be in communion with Me. I want you to let Me love you—please let Me love you. That is My deepest desire. [How can I partner with You in that then?] Love. Wholeheartedly love. Love without abandon. Love without reserve.         Love when it’s hard. Love when...

A Prayer For Zimbabwe

Dear Heavenly Father, Gosh, You are so faithful and sovereign. Thank You so much for all that You have done and all that You are doing and all that You are planning to do in the future. Lord, I lift up the country of Zimbabwe to You right now, Abba. Like it says in Jeremiah, You have plans for the people here—“plans to prosper [them] and not to harm [them], plans to give [them] hope and a future. Then [the citizens of Zimbabwe] will call on [You] and come and pray to [You], and [You] will listen to [them].” You declare that “[They] will seek [You] and find [You] when...

His mission – not mine

Wow. Month one is over. It’s time to leave behind the very first part of Africa I ever knew. All the people and places. Everything I’ve experienced, learned, and accomplished. South Africa is now left to memory, videos and my journal. My time in SA was full to the brim with laughter, growth and Jesus. Month one taught me to pay attention to the little, seemingly insignificant, interactions with the people, whether African or not, around me. Those simple conversations that seem like “small talk” actually connect you to people’s hearts. And when you are connected...
