A Shot In My Bum

After the first couple of weeks I look down at my legs and arms and count 81 bug bites. Since then I had someone help me put up my Mosquito net. However the bug bites became infected from rubbing and itching. It came to a point that the leaders voluntold me to go to the local clinic to get things checked out. At first I was actually really mad because I felt as if I was not being treated like an adult. But now after thinking about it I realize that they were just looking out. I told the guys who went with me that “what happens at the clinic stays at the clinic” because of my low...

Making A Difference

I came here thinking that I want to make a difference, I want the Lord to use me, and I want others to see Christ in me. These are all good things but I was going about the wrong way to seek these goals. Although I knew I needed Christ to achieve these things, I wasn’t acting like it. I put my success in things I was doing and never felt like I was doing enough. I wasn’t resting in the fact that Christ is in me and wants to do the work. A sermon by Judah’s Smith put it all into perspective though, that practice does not dictate position in a Christian’s life. We are already...

Seen and Not Heard

“And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.” — Acts? ?9:5-9 I grew up in a church with one of the smartest pastors I’ve ever had the pleaser...

Simple Dreams

After teaching at the Amazing Grace School for a month now I’ve realized how important it is for kids to go to school. Almost all the kids in America dread going to school, but here in Zambia the kids are so eager to go. Many times during the day kids will run up to me asking for a book or pen and it breaks my heart seeing the passion they have to learn. Yet they are quickly refused the chance because of how poor this country is. Going to school here means they have a real chance at getting out of poverty and being able to support themselves for longer periods of time, rather than having...

Wait…. This is Real Life? (Honeymoon Phase)

This is amazing, this is incredible!  I love you guys!  Don’t worry about it, it doesn’t bother me!  I want to spend every moment with you!!!!!!  I need you to get away from me for a minute!  Well, that escalated quickly! What do you do when life gets real?  When everything turns from fairytales, and magic dust; to horror stories, and cold hard rain?  Now, I am being a little dramatic, and that is partially just to get my point across about how hard things seems IN THE MOMENT.   In marriage there is this term that is used to describe the...

The Beautiful Game

As we walk over a make shift bridge to the Maramba flood grounds, the air is filled with the sound of shrill whistles and Nyanja (a local dialect) being barked by men and children alike. It is mid afternoon in Maramba township, and the sun is in full force, bearing down on the moist dirt, wet from recent rain. From an outsiders perspective, the following scene is that of a pickup soccer match, akin to street basketball courts littered across America. However this false perception is soon to be shattered. The Maramba grounds, settled between a local high school and small river that grows mighty...
