But He Said Hermoso

Hermoso.  It is one of the few Spanish words that I will never forget.  Hermoso is used to describe something that is beautiful and lovely.  Hermoso is not something that I would use to describe my heart.  But for a reason that I still do not fully understand, the Lord did.  When you are living life on the field, it becomes incredibly easy to become complacent.  It is easy to justify only giving half of your heart to the work you are doing, or to only do it half as well as you could have.  After all, you need to pace yourself.  You need to take things...

Community in Nicaragua

Community has been something I have mentioned that I have been longing for before coming on this trip. I always imagined what it would be like to be surrounded by a number of people who daily pour into my life, and who I would view as being like family. I prayed for that so much in the past, and God came through and answered that prayer in abundance…. Because I now have a group of community of 17 other women who I spend almost every hour of the day with! One of my favorite things that we do here at CICRIN, in Nicaragua, is that every meal is spent together at one long wooden table. I...

In The Midst of Celebration

So this weekend was full of celebrations! Yet in the midst of it all my perspective changed. And because of that, I’m still celebrating. Let me explain further.  So it’s quite evident that I can’t speak spanish. I obviously get by with hand gestures and a smile.. yet it can be so frustrating when all I really want to do is reach out and thoroughly get to know some one here. This past weekend we left Ometepe Island to work with another ministry. It’s made up of people that have poured their hearts out into ministry, a building that supports them, children in their...

Prayer Walking in L.A.

But really, I went to L.A. The town where CICRIN is located is called Los Angeles and, funnily enough, down the road is Sacramento. My Tuesday morning assignment was prayer walking with four of my team through Los Angeles. Before we left, we stood together and I prayed for God to guide our steps, thoughts, and words. After, we walked out onto the main road past houses, people riding bikes, bus stops, and convenience stores. About ten twenty minutes in, one of teammates suggested we turn down a down a small dirt road (not that uncommon, most of the roads are dirt). It was beautiful and jungle-like....

Washing Hands in Nicaragua

In the Bible, Jesus washed his disciple’s feet, demonstrating the humility and servitude we too should exhibit. Before this week, I thought that example was simply to show how Jesus put others before himself. I didn’t realize that the act of serving others in such a simple way can mean much more.I was able to experience this on Friday. The wife of the pastor at the church CICRIN attends came on Thursday night to tell us her story and ask us if we would help with her ministry the next day called Helping Hands which helps poor women on Ometepe in the name of Christ.Ruth began by saying...
