What is God’s Love?

I used to think that “Of course, God would save humanity. There are billions of souls. Why would He not save us?” But OH, How ignorant a thought! How foolish and self-serving! How PRIDEFUL! I was to think that I, a worthless, microscopic sinner, was worthy of God’s time, much less the Sacrifice of His Son. I now realize that God could have with one word wiped out the earth, moon, stars, and us, then restarted with perfect humans. But He did not, because that is not like Him. He is MERCIFUL! WE EXIST BECAUSE HE LOVES! HE IS BECAUSE HE LOVES. THAT IS HIM. He created the moons, stars, galaxies, and universe, so that WE COULD see Him. They are FLASHING lights that proclaim His existence! THEY PROCLAIM HIS LOVE! He loves us so much that He created all of that just to help us clue in to His existence. God IS LOVE. His love is beyond comprehension. Beyond understanding. Why, or better question, HOW could a God love so much as to smear His own Son through our guilt to save us. WHY? HOW? Is this even describable with our word “love”? There is nothing like this, nor will there ever be again. The greatest act of love is continually attacked and smeared by US! Some say that it never happened; some say that it does not matter, but OH HOW it matters more than anything EVER!

I also used to ask, “Why did God create mankind if He knew that we would rebel? Why would He create us if He knew we would suffer so greatly?” BUT OH! That was such a shallow thought! How have I been so ignorant and dismissive of Jesus’s pain and sacrifice! He took it all for US! God created us so we could see His reckless love for us. He created Humans, so we could experience His magnificent love. He orchestrated history and the sacrifice of His Son so that He could show us a small glimpse of His love for us. How could a God love us, wretches? How could He love us that much? Why? Why does He do it? It makes no sense. But God’s love makes no sense. It can’t. Because we can’t make sense of it. It is beyond us. Beyond comprehension. Beyond all reason. The all-knowing, all-powerful God, who has perfect knowledge and reason, also has unreasonable, reckless, unknowable love for us. There is no reason for it. All we can know is that it is there and for us. GOD’S LOVE IS FOR US, AND IT IS FREE! We could not even begin to try to pay Him back. It is NOT like God gave us ten billion love dollars, and perhaps we can pay Him back maybe one love dollar…. NO! God sent His Love for us. That is one thing, one act, one solemn declaration of His love. That one is Jesus. We can not give part of Jesus back. We can not pay back anything! All we can do is thank Him for His love, for His gift, for our Jesus. We can’t know it or understand it. We can merely thank Him. We can thank Him and listen. Listen for His instructions. We can dedicate our lives to Him and His instruction. He gave His all! He gave His Son. He gave His Holy Spirit. God provides our everything. He provides: the food you eat, the water you drink, the shelter you sleep, and the lifestyle you live. The only thing we own is our disobedience. That is the only thing we have to give. Therefore let us lift our disobedience to Him, praying that He will take it. While it will not be even one love dollar, it will be the only thing we have to give. That is the very least and at the same time, the most we can possibly do. Pray now that He will remove the disobedience from your life. Then take active steps to work with God. It does no use praying for obedience then disobeying when He calls you to obedience. I am going to leave you, the reader, with this: your praise for Him should ever be on your lips and your prayer to Him should always be on your mind. Live with the Love of God nearby. Pray that your love for Him would never fade, because His love never fades, never slows down, and will never EVER stop! That is because He created you to be LOVED by Him!
