The Crocodile House

Ministry looks a little different every day. On Tuesday instead of going to school our leaders decided to let us go out into the community and do atl, atl stands for ask the Lord. I was in a team with my friend Tyler and Carley. We decided to walk around the community surrounding our house and play with kids or pray for the people we encountered. We chose to turn left on the street we normally turn right onto. We walked all the way to the end of the street and ended up at this house with a drawing of a crocodile on the side of it. After we reached this house we decided to turn around and go back to the field by our house and play with kids. Later that day we had soccer ministry. At soccer ministry this kid named Moses came up to Tyler and gave her a drawing of a crocodile. This drawing was very similar to the drawing on the wall. We decided this was a sign we needed to go back and meet the people who live in the house. The next day our leaders announced that instead of school ministry they felt that we were being called to do a prayer walk in the community. After splitting into team’s, me and Tyler decided it would be a good idea to go and pray over the house we saw the day before so we headed back down that road. This time when we walked down there the road was more like a stream than a road so we tip toed our way to the house in our Chacos and Tevas. When we arrived our leader, Gabby walked to a guest house beside the crocodile house and she saw a kitten and she was instantly smitten. So, she decided to walk in and start talking to the owner of the guest house, which was named More Love. The owners name was Femi and she was kind and welcoming. We asked her a little bit about her guest house and her life and we got to pray over her. Then we left the guest house and started to walk back but decided to turn around and go pray over the house or see if anyone was home. We walked up and no one was outside, so we just stood there for a second trying to decided if knocking was a thing in Zambia. After a few minutes we just decided to pray over the house and wait and see if anyone came out. We started to pray and when we were all done praying a girl walked out and so we went up to her and tried to start a conversation. She ran inside to grab her sister I think. Then we started to talk to her sister and asked her what her name was. She said her name was Esther. That was a little crazy because the bible study that my team was doing was on Esther. After we talked for a little bit and prayed over her we headed back up to the soccer field. Side note when we were playing with the kids on the soccer field a massive dark cloud came over us and an old woman started running across the field yelling something. Then everyone started to run for their lives including the kids and me and my team where standing there thinking what is happening. Then we heard it about a mile away. It was rain and ran for our lives back to the Nama-Tama house. We made it back the house without getting wet which was a miracle. Okay now back to the story so after we made it back home we decided it would be fun to do the bible study at Esther’s house the next day. So, we called her up and gave her a heads up that we would be visiting. Me and 6 of my team mates grabbed our bibles, pens, and some of them grabbed their tea and we headed over to her house. Some people lost a little bit of their tea on the rocky journey over and some almost lost their old navy flip flops, but we made it the house. As we walked up to the house we interrupted a boxing practice and then we got some chairs and set up the bible study under this massive tree. As we were about to start Femi walks up and says would you like to see our crocodile. We all replied with a resounding yes. So, she walks us over to this stream and we all look at each other and think what have we gotten ourselves into. Femi grabs my hand and leads me across this knee deep murky stream. Once we reach the other side we walk over to this field and eventually to another part of this stream. We all look over and 40 feet away from us is a wild crocodile. We couldn’t believe what was happening. Within 5 minutes the whole family was there with us, about 20 people, staring at this massive crocodile. Then all the sudden a boy decides it would be funny to throw a rock at this animal. We all see the rock flying through the air and then it hits the crocodile. We pause in anticipation. It turns and starts to move. Then everyone starts to scream and run for their lives, while the boy just laughs as he runs home. After our adrenalin rushing experience we headed back for our bible study. I have to say it was one of the most interesting bible studies I have been to.
