“I am the Lord Your God, I go before you now. I stand beside you, and I’m all around you. Though you’re feeling far away, I’m closer than your breath. And I am with you, more than you know.” -Bethel
Something that I have struggled with is knowing that no matter what, my Jesus is always so close to me. I struggled with this until I heard wonderful insight through some history.
Before Jesus had died on the cross for our sins, there was a curtain that kept the Holy Place hidden and only the high priest could enter. In this structure, the curtain hiding the tabernacle was 4 inches thick and was so heavy that it took around 300 priest to carry it. The curtain kept the tabernacle “safe” and hidden so that only the high priest was able to step into this place.
After Jesus died, the 4 inch curtain was torn into two. This symbolized that the law was over and there would be no need for sacrifices since Jesus made the ultimate one to defeat sin and death. When the curtain was torn it represented that religion had come to an end and that He calls us into a relationship with Him instead.
With the curtain intact, Jesus was only 4 inches away. So today, when we feel like He is far away, we unknowingly put that curtain up pushing Him only 4 inches away.
When He is silent, I get this feeling of Him saying, “Hey Meg- I am everywhere, look for me in familiar places or even somewhere new today.” So the challenge is upon me, and in these situations, He chooses to remind me of different traits about Himself through my teammates..
Like when, for our ministry, our team travels to a home that houses women that have been sex trafficked and I see the Lord through Brooke. I see Brooke as a replica of Jesus’ love as these two little boys jump in her lap.
When Taylor is intentional with EVERY person that she meets and remembers their names
Or Cody’s leadership that shines so brightly and exemplifies how My Jesus leads the way
The knowledge that Jess holds and pours out to those that need encouragement
When Jeremy picks up all the children and loves them like My Jesus would
Or when my teammate Rachelle plays the guitar and sings and I see the precious gift the Lord has given her.
And how Josh is intentional about spending one on one time with My Jesus and lives out the verse of when Jesus got in a boat and went to a desolate place by himself to get filled back up.
My Jesus just asks for time. When you give Him time, He begins to unravel mysteries of Himself and speaks to the depths of your soul.
So know that Jesus is near. And because that veil was torn, there is no barrier when we ask Him into a relationship and accept Him as our Lord and Savior. There is no barrier in believing in our hearts that He has risen and defeated death!
Maybe you are like me who has struggled with the idea of Him being close every minute of everyday; look for Him in small ways, look for Him in new ways and just simply take the Lord’s hand and let Him lead the way into an exciting adventure! Jesus’ arms are wide open, eager to start a relationship with His children.
Thank you India and teammates for letting the Lord use you to show me more of Him.
