There Will Be Time

You hear it said all the time how going on a mission trip changes a person forever. How the kids in whatever country have stolen a persons heart and opened their eyes to so much beauty. How the Lord has worked in someone’s heart and has given them a new outlook on life. Well I have a little bit to say about all of that, and then some. I won’t say I am changed forever, not right now. Because I’m not done being changed. I am still changing, and the Lord is still working in me. I am the same person that I was when I left at the beginning the month, but I hope to be better as...

Adventure is Out There Pt. 2

One week down, ten(?) to go. I am absolutely loving my time in Skopje! After a full week in ministry, I can firmly say it is nothing like what I expected. Remember when I said I was going to be working in a coffee shop? There hasn’t been a coffee cup in sight (besides the copious amounts that my teammates drink each day). Instead, I am serving in a community center where they offer formal and informal English lessons. Since it is the beginning of the semester there has been a lot of downtime as we rebuild the base of students who come to the center. This has offered us a very exciting...

Blogging is Hard

I think this is technically the end of week two. Per my usual, I’m not entirely sure what day it is, what time it is, or generally what’s going on. I genuinely thought it was Tuesday when I woke up this morning…it’s Friday. Seriously though, how am I supposed to put a mountain of experiences into a couple of paragraphs? How much do y’all want to know? I could tell you how I love the tuffs of grass that poke through the pavement on the way to my favorite cafes. I could tell you how the call to prayer wakes me up everyday at 4:30am. I could tell you how my...

Dangerous?

I did something super dangerous. I prayed a prayer that went something like this: “Lord, break my heart for what breaks yours.” Yeah, it seems pretty generic and like a stereotypical missional prayer, but let me tell you, it holds a lot of power. Within a few hours from praying the dangerous prayer, the Lord lead me to go on a prayer walk by myself. He took me down the road that goes in front of the orphanage. There, I felt my heart physically break for these children. I began to weep because of the burden the Lord had placed on my heart for them. I grew an unconditional love...

Just Cambodian Things…

It took A 1.5 hour bus ride 12 hours in the Atlanta airport A 5 hour flight to Los Angeles 15 hours in LAX A 12 hour flight to Shanghai A 5 hour flight to Phnom Phen And a 2 hour bus ride to our ministry site To finally say… I’M IN CAMBODIA! My team has officially been serving in a small community about an hour outside of Kampong Cham for a bit more than 2 weeks now. Day 1, I held a tarantula, taught a child how to play baseball using a small, wooden bat and a water bottle, and slept in a hammock. Simply put, I hit the ground running. To encompass the emotions I’ve...

Miraculous Mundane

It’s hard to see the impact we make sometimes. And to believe teaching English and giving hugs for three and half weeks could be important enough to uproot my life for awhile seems a bit far fetched. Especially when it feels so difficult. And the kids don’t remember what we taught them yesterday so we have to review constantly. And you don’t fit in any where you go. But God said go. He said he called me here. So I have to believe he had his reasons. I have to believe something is sticking and for some reason me being me is making that possible. God is more than enough and...
