In the meantime

The last month of our time in Thailand has come to a drastic end. I am a bit beside myself, confused as I always am when chapters of my life end and change. Although I am deeply looking forward to being in the arms of my friends and family again, I am fighting to not forget all the doors, windows, and hallways God has opened up in the home of my heart these past months- in order so He could come dwell and live. While living in Phuket I had a hard time dealing with the urgency for justice. That if God is as faithful, as loving, and as just as I know Him to be why can’t He just fix...

The Last Missing Piece

One year ago today, I was called to this ministry in India without realizing it. Last fall, I went on my first Passport trip with AIM. I spent three months in Ecuador having the time of my life serving in Portoviejo and Loreto. As our time drew to a close, I was on fire. I felt that I could do missions forever. On the last day of our trip, we stayed with a Gap Year squad that was in Quito at the time. They were really kind and friendly and welcomed us into their times of worship and fellowship. Worshiping Beyond Language Barriers

A few weeks ago, we attended church in a town called Hmarkhawlien. It was a pretty small church, and, like most of the EFCI churches, the service was in the Hmar language. As usual during worship I couldn’t understand what was being said, so my team sort of stood at our seats and hummed the tune or listened to the congregation sing. I saw these women worshiping and dancing and my heart wanted to get up and dance with them. I stayed in my seat...

Slamming Doors

Life is cool. I’m utterly amazed, immensly thankful, and incredibly proud to say: I’ve bravely ridden, and shamefully fallen off, a Costa Rican horse. I’ve aimlessly walked the bustling streets of Madrid. I’ve spent 9 hours in Morocco. I’ve surfed epic swells in the Dominican Republic. I’ve seen incomprehensible poverty in Haiti. I’ve traveled through 6 European countries with my grandmother. I’ve witnessed God in a Khmer child’s bright smile. I’ve picked pesky weeds in Thailand. And, in January, I’m flying to Ecuador to...
