Ministry Moments, Day 1, Team Africa

Stories from first day of ministry in Johannesburg, South Africa. On September 6th we joined Impact Africa’s outreach team to evangelize in squatter camps (informal settlements of the low-income families of the residents of Johannesburg).  In teams of three to four we headed into the communities to build relationship and speak about our sweet Jesus. Here are a few of our favorite moments: Before beginning our outreach ministry, we prayed over our day and asked God to show us specific qualities, such as clothing items or color of shoes, of people we would encounter during...

Gods Comfort When Uncomfortable

I now live with 15 people, including myself in Kathmandu, Nepal. I am in the process of learning that stepping over someone else, or waiting in the shower line is my new normal.  God is so purposeful when He has others in fellowship, and it is such a beautiful thing. 15 people on one floor of a four story building — 3 beds, 1 bathroom, one kitchen, and a living space is a learning curve for all of us. Thankfully, we have the four floors plus a terrace on top of the building to roam, but it isn’t unlikely to run into someone else who has that same idea. Personal space is the...

His Mercies Are New

I yearn to fall in love with being uncomfortable. Yesterday a huge frog jumped out of the packing cube I keep my clean clothes in.  Last night I couldn’t fall asleep because it was so hot that my sleeping pad, mosquito net, and shorts clung to my sticky skin.  The dim light in our room went out on the second day, so after 6:00 pm we do everything in the dark.  I wake up at 3:30 am, stumble to the squatty potties, and brush my teeth while wolf spiders watch me from the walls.  I eat rice, mystery meat, and eggs for every meal.  I am startled from sleep at 1:00...

we need your help!

These first few days have been a joy. Learning and experiencing (& walking. everywhere) with my team has been a treat. We got to worship& pray for this city and be oriented with what our ministry is going to be. The majority of our ministry will be teaching English to women& playing with the kids in the slums. We were asked to come up with some educational games to play with the kids. We thought this might be fun thing that our families& friends could be a part of. So we are asking for your creative side! Any ideas of science, math or simple english games please contact any...

Comfort?!

Hey, hey everyone! Well we made it to Cambodia on September 5th in the afternoon. After leaving Georgia on September 3rd at 7:00pm then flying for 13 and half hours, we had our first layover in Doha and flew for another 7 hours to Bangkok then our last flight to Siem Reip Cambodia! We then drove 4 hours to Kampong Cham to our 1st destination for the next month. We met the kids right away, and feel in love in a blink. Today is our 4th day and our love only grew stronger! We all know the word comfort. It could be as simply as being sweaty and can hop in the shower and change the...
