Have you ever surrounded your leaders with prayer?

This afternoon at our church, the congregation gathered around the alter, pulpit and Pastor and prayed for strength, truth, only the gospel to be preached, no harm from the enemy, for the ministry to be fruitful and more.  This reminded me of “1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior…” -1 Timothy 2:1-3 Prayer is important. Better then “Getting through it”

When we found out that our new ministry included working with kids, I was thrilled. Children are my heart and despite meeting some really sweet children here I was desperately missing my kids back home so working with preschoolers sounded amazing. Teaching has never been my passion, but I had worked at preschool levels and enjoyed it so with images of being hugged by smiling children and reading Bible stories in my head my hopes were high. Can I adopt him yet!?

For the past two weeks I’ve been in Maun, Botswana working at a home for orphaned and abandoned children. Most of the parents of these kids have passed away, are alcoholics, prostitutes, or have psychological issues, making them unfit to take care of their kids. In the past six years that this home has been open, only 8 kids have been adopted due to certain laws here, it’s really difficult to adopt kids in Botswana. When I showed up on the first day I was...

Let’s Shower Together

Lately, Jesus has been teaching me that everyday is filled with opportunities to say yes to things that sound crazy and live a life full of whimsy and adventure. One of our latest adventures started with overhearing that some of the older girls at the children’s home we live at were going to bathe one of my teammates. “No way did I hear that right,” I thought. But sure enough, they invited us all to go and take showers with them. You see, myself and a few of my teammates have found out over the past couple weeks that we have lice, and the older girls have been so kindly...

Pieces of Stories

Sitting on the beach writing this blog I am overcome with the beauty of this place, but I am also reminded of something my friend said a few weeks ago as we watched the sunrise over the beach and praised the one who created it: “The people here have no idea who to praise for this beauty”. Officially most of the people here would identify as Buddhist, but in talking with them we learned quickly that it’s less about religion and more about superstition. There are temples everywhere and small shrines in nearly every building you enter, but when you ask them why they believe...
