The Voices in My Head
All of these voices that flood my head
Are drowning my spirit
Pulling me under til I’m emotionally dead
My voice is focused on my hopes, dreams, and the things I want.
But it all exhausts me from thinking too much
My voice says “Perform! Then you’ll be good enough.”
But it leaves me feeling empty, dissatisfied, and unloved.
The enemies voice is easy to recognize.
It’s condemnation, fear, and ridiculous lies!
It knocks you down, and you can’t get back up
Because the lies make you feel like you are not enough
It steals your voice, makes you feel too insecure to speak.
It buries all of the goodness in you, and hides it underneath.
The world’s voice is about what peers and culture expect from you
It puts everything on a time clock, and gives you lists of things to do.
“Contour your face! Get your degree on time! Have sex and party, and then you’ll shine.”
“Put on a shorter skirt, and hold his hand. Be pretty, but keep quiet! Because this world is run by men.”
The Lord’s voice brings love, joy, hope and peace.
It’s the only thing that fills the emptiness underneath.
It says “you don’t have to perform, you’re already good enough!”
Your voice isn’t what will show you love.
It says “I’m here to speak truth, not lies! You are the most lovely thing, in my eyes. I pursue you daily through the sunsets and waves, you are more powerful than the enemy, do not be afraid.”
It says “The world and its glory cannot make you shine. Chasing after materialistic things will make you fall behind. I will give you purpose, I will satisfy your heart. I will love you back to holy and we will never be apart.
Tune out the voices that race through your head
Tune in to me, keep your thoughts on what I have said.
I will bring you peace from the voices, I will distinguish them for you
All that is good comes from me, disregard the bad, they are not true!
Satan is out to get you, he knows you will do great things.
You will move mountains and he doesn’t want you to reign.
For you will have eyes to see how I see, you will have my love for humanity.
You will rescue the broken hearted,
When I give you my eyes to see all that is within you underneath.
