Every Sunday is our dedicated to church and is also our girls night. So Sunday I went to my first African church service. It was fun and not quite as long as I expected. We got to church early or late I don’t really know which one since there were two services. As we waited for church I decided to try and make friends after a few failed attempts I made some friends. We played and talked a little until it was time for church then we headed into the church building. We sat in the middle rows in the church and the kids would sit around us and some would sit in my team mates laps. We introduced our selves to the entire church and then they sang which was amazing. I may not have been able to understand a single word but I loved every second. After church was over we headed back to our house to eat lunch but before we could make it back it started to rain cats and dogs on us. Luckily we found a roof to hide under. As we waited for the rain to let up a few of the girls started to sing Taylor Swift. Before I knew it we were all singing bad blood under a tin roof in the middle of storm in Livingstone, Zambia. I have to say that has been one of my highlights from this trip so far. After the storm let up we headed back to the house. Once we got back we ate lunch then headed to town. Once we got to town we decided to try a new coffee shop. This one was across the street and luckily it ended up being great we got coffee and wifi. What more could I ask for. After a few hours we stopped by the store to get a surprise for the group. Me and my roommates decided to make brownies and ice cream for dessert. I have to say this was one of my best ideas yet. After getting all the ingredients we headed back for dinner.
When we arrived home our team was in the middle of making dinner so we had some free time. I spent my free time hanging out with my new best friend Auldridge jr. He is our host’s son and possibly the cutest kid ever. We decided to do water colors and the coolest part was I helped him learn the colors as we painted. When dinner was ready we stopped watercolors and I got to eat some amazing stuffed peppers.
After dinner it was time to make brownies. Me and my roommates mixed all the ingredients together and popped it in the oven. While we waited for it to cook we all licked the bowl and I had never been more in love with brownie batter.
It was Sunday so that meant girls night which also is code for movie night. Everyone grabbed their mats and we sat in our living room for our movie. Once the brownies were ready we grabbed a bowl and ice cream and sat down on our mats and ate them all. Ohh almost forgot to tell you our movie. We got to watch pitch perfect. Our girls night also turned into girls night with Aldridge jr and Dennis. I have to be honest I didn’t see about 90% of the movie due to Auldridge. He really loved my blow up mat. He would jump on it as if it were a bed and at one point we pretended it was a car. Im pretty sure we were distracting the rest of my team too so sorry about that. It was so much fun hearing him laugh. I think he has the cutest laugh I have ever heard it just makes everyone laugh around him. Sadly he had to head home for bed, but I got to see the last 10 minutes of the movie in quietness. I have to say Sundays in Africa are defiantly fundays.
