Was Blind

I was blind to the pain and affliction people face everyday. I was blind to the grace and love The father pours on me DAILY. I was blind to the amount that I can do to spread the gospel. I was blind to the amount of power that comes from the Holy Spirit. I was blind. I was blind to the fact that all of these things are also at home in Spring, Texas. But now I see. I would compare our first week in chichicastenango, Guatemala to the conversion of Saul to Paul. Acts 9:8 says Saul opened his eyes and saw nothing. The numbness of day to day life and the busyness we Americans drown in,...

Adventure is Out There

Wow…that’s all I know how to say. I’m blown away by all that I am taking in, it’s hard to comprehend all that has passed these past few days. Time here is irrelevant and has a strange way of passing. Days and weeks fly by, and take years to pass at the same time. Each day brings its own adventure, you just have to know how to look. Whether teaching art and English to the local children, getting beat in soccer, smothering houses in blue paint, or leaping from chicken buses, our days are filled with life and experiences. I continued to be left in shock and awe by what...

When the world says no, but God says go.

According to my circumstances, my resources, my abilities, I shouldn’t be here in Guatemala. When I first heard about this month long trip, my heart beat so fast and I knew I was meant to be here. However, I began to face the fact that I didn’t have the money to come, I had a perfectly good summer long job lined up if I stayed at home, and my dad has stage 4 cancer. Everyone reminded me of this daily and how I shouldn’t go. I began to listen to them. However, God continued to gently nudge me. He told me to trust him. He told me that His plans for me were greater than my...

Seeking the Lord

It has been a very eventful and challenging first 2 weeks. The Lord has been faithful in multiple ways, by giving us a team that can encourage and work well together, having many ministries to show His love through whether it be picking up garbage, teaching kids, or prayer walks and giving us a family like Juan’s to work alongside with for a month. Most days look like:breakfast team time (we shared testimonies this past week, feedback and bible studies)morning ministry (prayer walks, listening prayers, community cleanup)lunch free time/first shift at schoolsecond shift at school/free...

Everyone’s Gifts are Unique

When I first arrived in Guatemala, I was terrified. I couldn’t see how God was going to use me in a country where I didn’t speak the language when so many people on my team speak Spanish. I was overwhelmed with fear of the living conditions, of the ministry and living with people I had just met. Soon after that we had kids ministry where we simply just played with the kids in Chichicastenango, which was huge encouragement for me. I love kids and I really felt used. As I was praying, I felt as though God was telling me that everyone has their gifts and evangelism is not mine,...
