Growing up in an environment that was always on the go, it was very challenging to come to a completely different pace of life. The earth and the people in it seemed to slow down. As the team and I walked through the markets we would wave to the people who lived there and they got so excited to see us and that we took the time to greet and smile at them. It was so different from what I was used to because at home people are too busy to stop and say hello.
The entire atmosphere is unlike any other I’m used to. Since the pace is slower it allows you to stop and look around and appreciate the beauty around you. The flowers and the mountains that surround us are so breathtaking. The people are very friendly and welcoming and most of them don’t have phones. I can feel the joy that they have in there hearts when they smile. They all have such beautiful smiles. God is really teaching me that you don’t have to be always busy and doing something all the time. It is healthy to take a break and sit and talk to people and serve others.
I am very grateful for the experience of getting to know such a unique culture and I can’t wait to see what God teaches me in the months to come.
