Finding Heart and Home: Experiencing Cambodia

At night I wander out into the middle of the dirt driveway, also known as the soccer field, and I focus my gaze above me on the starry night sky. It is not the most breath-taking scene I have gazed upon, yet it is beautiful and close to my heart anyway. I am in a small Cambodian town yet at night I gaze upon the same stars that my friends and family across the world. Every night I find my friend in the sky, Orion, who connects me to my two best friends in the world. In that moment I share with them the piece of my heart that has been stole by this Cambodian town and the precious children here. Moments before connecting with the stars I experience the moment that moves and grows my heart consistently. This is a time of heart and spirit filled worship with the Cambodian children. Whether the worship is in English or Khmer no longer matters. All the matters is that we are all joining together lifting up open hands in praise to our same Heavenly Father. In these moments, God’s heart for Hi children breaks through my hardness and single-mindedness. When this happens true worship is released and I felt the Father smiling down over us. After a few closing words and the occasional message or testimony all of the children run around tightly squeezing each member of our team as we wish each other goodnight. These are the moments I live for.

Throughout the days we rotating teaching English to the children which is often a challenge but also one of the most rewarding things I have done. These children genuinely want to learn and work with us as we discover the material and methods to teach them. I have often had various children run up to me telling me what we taught them earlier in class. These moments make my heart explode as I realize that what we are doing makes a difference in the lives of these children.  We also often walk into the market to explore, find fresh fruit, and other snacks. Every one of these moments is a bonding moment for our team. The Lord has brought together an amazing group of young adults who passionately love Him and others. I cannot wait to see what the Lord does in our lives over these next couple of months and I know that the Lord will always be with His children that He is allowing us to love on. We have just over a week left in Cambodia and then we will continue our journey in Thailand! Until next time, please be praying for my team, for health, and for the orphanage.
