Finding Him in the Stillness

I’ve been in Thailand for almost two weeks now, and I’ve been putting off looking back at my time in Cambodia and truly saying goodbye.  The season my team and I spent there was a sweet one, and so full of simplicity and life. I miss it. I miss the roosters crowing and the dogs howling each morning. I miss the 5:30 am prayer time, when every kid in the orphanage rolled out of bed and sat in a circle, each one praying at the same time.  I’ve come to realize that there is power in community prayers all spoken out loud, as one voice, no matter the language. I miss...

A Prayer For Zimbabwe

Dear Heavenly Father, Gosh, You are so faithful and sovereign. Thank You so much for all that You have done and all that You are doing and all that You are planning to do in the future. Lord, I lift up the country of Zimbabwe to You right now, Abba. Like it says in Jeremiah, You have plans for the people here—“plans to prosper [them] and not to harm [them], plans to give [them] hope and a future. Then [the citizens of Zimbabwe] will call on [You] and come and pray to [You], and [You] will listen to [them].” You declare that “[They] will seek [You] and find [You] when...

His mission – not mine

Wow. Month one is over. It’s time to leave behind the very first part of Africa I ever knew. All the people and places. Everything I’ve experienced, learned, and accomplished. South Africa is now left to memory, videos and my journal. My time in SA was full to the brim with laughter, growth and Jesus. Month one taught me to pay attention to the little, seemingly insignificant, interactions with the people, whether African or not, around me. Those simple conversations that seem like “small talk” actually connect you to people’s hearts. And when you are connected...

Scripture

Pursuing God is really good. Doing the good things and going to church every Sunday is just not enough. Wanting a relationship and not willing to put the effort in getting to know God will not fill you up. It’s great that you are going good things and going to church and don’t get me wrong God loves that, but he wants more. He wants you to get to know him and really read the bible and learn more about the scripture. Being in Nepal and going to a church I don’t understand makes me feel a little empty. I don’t get the most out of the lecture and I crave more. Knowing...

Leaving

A fantastic rotating of the earth to all of you earthlings! (I was feeling spacey today)      I left Cambodia with a full heart and list of things the team accomplished. We were able, through God’s provision, to get bikes for the kids going into 10th grade this November (it’s at a different school farther away then the rest of the kids), finish the space mural, and dig up an old playground set that needed to be gone (in involved a LOT of smashing concrete with a sledge hammer).     On our last night, we held a goodbye bonfire with all the kids. The...
