I’ll Keep On

Ok ok, technically Cinematic means relating to motion pictures, not how artfully words are strung together but give me a break! I couldn’t think of another word that even sounded like an S to go with Saturday that would give the same feelings as “Cinematic”. For those of you who didn’t read my last blog (and you totally should), today is Cinematic Saturday which means I will (try to) paint word pictures and share digital pictures of what is happening on this trip. If you want a more informational/story format, go to my Truthful Tuesday blog (which happens to be the...

My New Normal

Life in Nepal is different. It looks like praying that the street dogs don’t bark so you can get some much needed rest at night. It looks like sharing a small flat with 14 strangers. It looks like bucket showers every few days. It looks like hand washing laundry on the roof and praying it doesn’t rain so your clothes can actually dry. It looks like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every day. It looks like dirty hair and blistered feet. It looks like walking (a LOT). It looks like a van fit for 15 passengers carrying 23. It looks like teaching English and dancing with kids...

God is so Good!

My short time at New Hope for Orphans has already made me feel at home in so many different ways. I have found a home in each bright smile of all 20 children. I have found a home in the mom and the dad who provide love and care for all the children. I have found a home in my small room with 2 fans and 3 other girls who have created their own version of home on the floor with me. I have even found a home in the squatty potties/ bucket showers. But most of all I feel as though I have become a part of a beautiful community called New Hope for Orphans in Siem Reap, Cambodia.  These...

When This Is Nothing What You Wanted

Saying yes to this trip was something that I did out of an extremely small ounce of faith. I did not want to leave my life at home. Home has all the people I love, the things I love to do, and the place where I feel safe. However, I decided to say yes to the road less traveled. Leading up to the trip, I never thought about the fact I was actually leaving. I avoided thinking about it by filling my time with work, friends, family, and any sort of distraction I could find. Did I realize that at the time? No. Do I realize this now? Yes. Training camp started off rough. I did not want to be...

Water Bottle Baptism

Wow, so Tuesday morning we went out to ministry in the squatter camps here in the Johannesburg area of South Africa and I partnered with Hannah, Chloe, and one of the Impact Africa interns named Stephen! Throughout the morning we talked to a man who was a Christian and were able to encourage him in his faith and pray for him. We then continued to meet another lady and I proceeded to distract her puppy (a 14 month old golden lab) while Hannah and Chloe helped her hand wash clothing and share the Gospel with her! After hearing Hannah share the Gospel, she decided that she wanted to accept...

Wax

I am learning to be wax. Soft, soft wax before a fire. Hot wax that runs as if it were water. This fluidity wrecks me! The Lord wrecks me and melts me and molds me into a new creation! I have established a pretty decent routine here in Cambodia. Wake up at 4:30AM, morning prayer in a language I do not understand, breakfast at 7:00AM, and on. Every bit of me fights this routine. This routine melts my independence! But Micah 1:4 says that even the mountains will melt under the Lord. Mountains! Under this heat, the mountains rush and run like rivers. Only God can do that! As wax, I have...
