Gearing up and saying Goodbye

A good rising of the sun to all you fantastic people!      My time here in Cambodia is coming to a close. All of my team’s projects are being wrapped up. The swing set that was 2 feet under in concrete is excavated and the space mural is a few hours away from completion. We’re planning a game day, scavenger hunt, and bonfire to finish out our week here mixed in with some last few English classes.     This last week, however, we had some good fun as well. We took almost all the kids to a local stream for an outing, to get them out...

Not Called to Comfort

I can’t believe that month one is coming to an end already. This month God has taught me a lot, but He’s really opened my eyes to this one thing – we aren’t called to be comfortable, we are called to be courageous. In Joshua 1:9 the Lord says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Courage. Bravery. Boldness. Three actions that I have been called to fully step into this month. There have been many uncomfortable moments these past three and...

Unrestrained Joy

This past week has held an overwhelming amount of JOY.  I am in awe of how well Jesus is captivating my heart and arresting my soul through this breathtaking country. Schedules become crutches I lean on heavily in order to feel safe and comfortable.  Back at home I would sometimes just say “no” to tentative plans with friends because the idea of leaving my house without knowing exactly what I was going to end up doing was such a frightening...

livin’ & learnin’ in Africa

South Africa is everything I imagined plus some with a twist. Haha, yep exactly. The beautiful city of Johannesburg, located in the northern part of South Africa, is full of life. It’s streets are constantly flowing with traffic that often neglect any road rules. The abundance of culture diversity is insane. And the people are so welcoming. This month my team is working with Impact Africa. As an missions-based organization, their priorities are to educate, rescue and serve. They accomplish this through several ministries that reach into the community and partner with the locals to...

I See

Two weeks ago yesterday, I stepped onto Nepal dirt. Sometimes I struggle knowing whether I have a Chaco tan line or a Chaco dirt line on my feet (usually the second), but there is one thing I am certain of — God is here, there, and everywhere. I see God in the Himalayan hills (the mountains are still in hiding among the clouds). I see God in the glorious masterpiece of the sky every night as the sun sinks below the horizon. I see God in the hearts of my teammates as they speak truth and wisdom into each other’s lives. I see God in the city slums as children receive love through...
