My Second Best Friend

When you are living life in some place of south east Africa and build relationship with the kids by the simple fact of spending time with them and looking into their eyes. When you are so passionate about the simple and see complexity and detail in the every day and can not help but to stand in awe and share your joy with whomever is around you. When you are supposed to be doing something and you don’t restrict yourself to the supposed but you expand the boundaries and experience freedom, that moment when you forget about literally everything and feel as if you where flying but youre feet are still on the ground (which makes it much more magical.)

Those moments where no culture, language, race, education or social class can separate us, those moments where you are so human that you just connect with people in a way that is difficult to explain with words. And now this very thing happened the moment when Aaron comes and says: “you are my best friend” Really? I did nothing but share that moment with him where our eyes matched and look far beyond what we can just see with physical eyes. I love to experience over and over again the fact that is in the subtle things where big things happen.

The moment Aaron said those words I replied: “oh…my best friend is Jesus and He is amazing because He is always with me and never leaves me and I can talk to Him whenever I want, He is always taking care of me and protecting me and He loves me so much. Do you want to know Him? He can be your best friend too!”. That day Aron received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and obviously as his best friend. He now knows that even when I leave he’ll still have his best friend with him. Now he has a treasure no one can ever take away from him, and an unending source of love to spill over the people he gets to make life with. The gift of giving and receiving Jesus is worth anything.

Now every time I see him I get close and whisper to his ear: “Aaron who is your best friend?” And he answers me back looking at the sky and with a smile that is worth a thousand words: “Jesus is! And you are my second best friend!”
