Life in Cambodia

Hello family and friends! We have been in Cambodia for almost a week now! After a 5 day travel day, including an unexpected layover in Malaysia (2 days for some of us), we are settled into our new home. We are living and ministering at New Hope for Orphans in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. We live in a small village with amazing people. We have gotten to know the kids and have already fallen in love with their sweet hearts, adorable smiles, giggles, and snuggles.

Nick (my awesome co-leader) and I are seriously so proud and so obsessed with our team. They are hard working, Spirit-led, encouraging, worshippers. Watching them interact with the kids brings me immense pride and joy. Seriously they are rock stars and it has been an honor to lead them. I can’t wait to see what the next 11 weeks look like. They are already completely different people than when we first met them, in the best possible way!

(thanks for lettings us lead your kids, parents!)

Let me walk you through a day in the life of our team in Cambodia!!

Usually we wake up with the sun, around 6am. The ladies sleep on a porch above a little shop, and our men (all 2 of them) sleep in the house. Mornings are my favorite time around here. The kids are extra sweet and cuddly and it’s quiet enough to charge up for the day! At 8 we have breakfast (the food here is amazing).

At 9 half of the team does construction and half of the team goes on a prayer walk through the village. We get the privilege to help with the final stages of building the new orphanage!!!

After we are nice and sweaty (it gets pretty hot here during the day) we come back and eat again (did I mention they’ve been feeding us well?). After lunch we spend time with the kids, plan for evening English class, have team time, goof off, buy way too many cold drinks from the little store, and sweat some more. Then we eat dinner of course.

In the evenings we have been teaching English to the kids at the orphanage. Half of our team teaches the little kids (5-12ish) and the other half teaches the older ones (13-19ish). English class has been a challenge for us since we do not speak Khmer but again, I have been so proud of our team and they are being so creative and patient with the students…Then we go to bed around 8:30…don’t judge.

My prayer for this month is that these children will feel the love of a Father through us as a team and that we as a team will continuously surrender and let the power of the Spirit drive us! Thanks for all of your support and prayers, much love!
