Let Go(d)

When on previous mission trips I often times got caught up in the plan and schedule and when something went awry I would get upset and let that feeling color my experience. During training camp my team leaders encouraged all of us to make declarations; vocalizing our personal goal for our trip. My declaration is that I will allow God to take hold of my heart and have Him work through me however He sees fit because His plan is far greater than my own. Those are simple words to say but far more complicated to put into practice. As someone who seeks structure and schedules, leaving things up to God will put me to the test but then again the point of this trip is not for me to sit in my comfort zone.

I have already seen the fruits of letting go and letting God take control over my life. During this week my team and I have often times been walking into situations where we do not know what our host will want us to do. It ranges anywhere from sharing the gospel or playing games with 30+ children to teaching English to a variety of age groups. In situations like this my nature is to get very anxious at the lack of planning or preparation I had but in an effort to live out my declaration I tried to be easy going as my team and I quickly came up with an idea of what to teach the children. Thirty minutes later I found myself suppressing tears as I heard 25 little voices shouting out their newly learned numbers in English. Watching the smiles that consumed their whole face and the fascination in their eyes as they discovered new words was more than I could ever ask for.

I sit here writing this blog with nothing but gratification for the King of Kings who is taking my controlling personality and showing me the beauty in allowing him to do what he sees fit.

Prayer Request: Pastor Soly is our host here in Cambodia. He and his wife and their two children live a the orphanage full time. We recently went with the pastor to the build site for the new orphanage, they’ve been working on it for the past year and when funding comes in for the rest of the build it will only take them about 4 months to finish. Please be praying for the new site, for funding, and for the pastor and his family. They have dedicated their lives to doing God’s work and have created a safe and loving home for all of these children where they can grow, create, and learn about God.

Pictured below is the new building site for the orphanage. The brick building on the right is where the boys and girls will live and the gray building on the left is where the pastor will have his office, the kids will have a library, and where the volunteers will stay when they come.
