The greatest irony is this: To truly live, you must die. To be the best you, you must be less you and more of Love. In fact, isn’t that why Christ was proven to be God? He was 100% pure love at all times towards all people, and, as the Scriptures say, “God is Love”.
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:36-40).
The purpose of human life is to love God with every fiber of energy in your heart, soul, and mind, perpetually bask in the euphoria of God’s Love, and share that same Love with every person you come in contact with. So many of us spend our days striving and stressing towards social ideals and statuses that will, in the end, leave us feeling empty. Let’s reference the words of Solomon, a King renown for being one of the wisest men ever and one of the wealthiest rulers in history (which makes him a lot smarter and wealthier than we will ever be):
“I, the Teacher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem.
I decided to carefully and thoroughly examine all that has been accomplished on earth.
I concluded: God has given people a burdensome task that keeps them occupied.
I reflected on everything that is accomplished by man on earth, and I concluded: Everything he has accomplished is futile – like chasing the wind!” (Ecc 1:12-14)
“Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from a man’s envy of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind” (Ecc 4:4).
“He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity” (Ecc 5:10).
Even the Messiah, after fasting in the desert for 40 days, was tempted by Satan with the perishable offerings of this world.
“Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’” (Matt 4:8-10)
Just like Christ, who was a human as we are, we are tempted every day to chase “the kingdoms of the world and all their glory”, but they are not ours to have. All that you see, money, gold, cars, mansions, and earthly kingdoms, are mere vanities placed as distractions to remove focus from fulfilling our purpose in life. Everything that can appeal to our fleshly senses fades, but, what is of God, is spiritual and echoes throughout eternity.
However, this is what the Lord has commanded us: “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” It was Christ that also said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, and this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
Convicted, I find myself in a remote village called Seilmat, India, miles away from everything I know. Well God, I’m here. It’s just me, You, my team, and the hills of India. Have your way…
