The Sound of Heaven Touching Earth

It’s the sound of sixty kids yelling and dancing cause there’s no party like a Holy Ghost party cause the Holy Ghost party don’t stop!

It’s the sound of the Church Clap blaring through a grocery store parking lot as 13 girls dance it out for the Lord with passerbys wondering what they are on. Just overdosing on the Holy Spirit is all.

It’s the sound of the worship song I don’t know in a language I really don’t know, but for some reason I know that the way the rhythm fills me with joy and the singer on stage is dancing that this is Heaven’s joy. And when Cass grabs my hands and spins me around laughing the whole way down these pews, I now know why David danced for the Lord.

It’s the sound of the little boy next to me at Fire by Nite singing at the top of his lungs that “Nobody! Nobody! Nobody can love me like Jesus! Nobody! Nobody! Nobody like Jesus!”

It’s the sound of the first graders laughing as Tyler and I try to teach they to make leaf prints which results with paint all over the room, but it’s just all a beautiful little mess.

It’s the sound of the beautiful blue Botswana birds.

It’s the sound of Gabby’s voice telling us we can sleep in in the morning.

It’s the sound of Salty singing in her room as she gets ready and thinks none of us hear her.

It’s the sound of the soft breaths of the tiniest baby I have ever laid eyes on and there I sit in a hospital blessed to have its tiny fingers wrapped around mine as I pray for strength for little baby Justice to grow up to proclaim my God of justice and grace.

It’s the sound that quiets my voice and opens my ears to the sound of a hundred children singing about the sound of heaven touching earth, all voices intertwined, my team’s, the seven year old boys in front of me, the group of teenage girls beside us, hands raised, the paino barely playing just all of us our voices alive to worship The One who loves us, and in the middle of it all I stand silently, my soul overflowing to God because I realize that this, all this in this moment, in my unworthy ears is the sound of heaven of touching earth.
