How Deep the Father’s Love

Humans struggle so often with feelings of discontentment.  We search desperately for fulfillment, for joy, for light.  We delve into the darkest parts of our souls trying to find purpose and meaning.  We lose ourselves in our efforts to find ourselves and spiral out of control as we try to hold everything together.

But God calls us to something higher.

He calls us to pursue Him and to rest in Him.  He calls us to seek Him in the high places and in the low places.  He calls us to be aware of who we are in Him and of the truth He declares over us.  He calls us to fight for Him.  He calls us to fall in love with Him and recognize how deep His love is for us.

And, when we are truly in love with our Father and are caught up in the depths of His love, we are then able to love in a way that reflects Him.  The Lord commands us to seek out the “least of these”.  He commands us to “preach the gospels to all nations”.  He commands us to “be a light”.  We act like these commandments are optional, like they are difficult to live out, like we have to drop everything and leave the country for a week just to be able to follow them.  We ride spiritual highs and come back down from them drained and lukewarm.

Our spiritual crashes, discontentment, and yearnings for fulfillment are not of the Lord.  He can use these feelings to draw us to Him, but, at the end of the day, they are attacks from the Enemy.  We are in the middle of a battle going on every day, and when we allow ourselves to lose sight of Christ’s callings is when we give Satan a foothold.  The truth is, the things the Lord has called us to are meant for daily application.  We are meant to love the least of these, we are meant to preach the Gospel, and we are meant to be a light daily, whatever that looks like.

There is something in our core that is meant to bring glory to the Lord and we will never be fulfilled until we are actively chasing after Him.

His love is captivating–it is not something to be visited only during a moving worship service, or during a really good quiet time, or during a church retreat.  He wants us to pursue Him daily and to fight for intimacy with Him during every moment of every day.  He intercedes for us every time we fall short of his glory and we are meant to be in constant communication with Him.

We will never feel true satisfaction if we are constantly coming down from spiritual “highs” and not spending time following Him in every aspect of our daily lives.  We will never know contentment until we are chasing His commandments and falling into new depths of His love each and every day.
