Comfortably Uncomfortable

It’s been almost 2 weeks and I’ve experienced so much of God’s presence. On July 2 when my parents drove me to Georgia to the AIM office/headquarters, I had no idea what to expect because as many of you already knew, i didn’t know ANYBODY i would be spending this whole month with. But God had this beautiful plan in specifically choosing each of the people on my team. In Acts 2:42-47, Luke talks about the fellowship of believers and how they worked together for one purpose. Its so powerful to experience the very fellowship he wrote about even though you‘ve only known people for 11 days.

Being away from my family and what I’m comfortable with in South Carolina has been a challenge like no other, but God has placed these people in my life and have used them to encourage me to stay focused. Thankful isn’t even the word to express how it feels to have brothers and sisters who will come along side of you on your journey! God is SO good!

The ministry called Pan de Vida that i talked about on some of my posts before leaving isn’t the only ministry we’ve been helping since we’ve been here. God has opened up the door for us to serve along side of the members of Camp Hope which is an orphanage for special needs children. Monday-Friday we walk around 2 miles to this orphanage to minister in different ways like cooking, cleaning, organizing, leading music, and interacting with the kids as a way of loving on them. On Wednesday’s and Sundays we get on the bus to go to Pan de Vida to help cook, teach children about Jesus, and so much more!

Getting to know these people has been so beautiful and the fact that God called me specifically to Quito to serve completely out of my comfort zone, shows that He always has a plan to bring glory to His name. While writing this, God has laid a specific story from yesterday on my heart that I have to share.

Yesterday we went to both of the ministries and it was suuuuch a long day. When we arrived at Pan de Vida, they asked who wanted to work with the kids and I felt this tug on my heart to raise my hand. We had about an hour to plan a lesson/activity for the kids and after praying, we decided that we would do a skit of the story in the Bible of when Jesus calls His first disciples and that someone would translate(which went great by the way! I’ll try to upload the video soon!).. After doing the skit, I began asking questions to sort of recap and engage them more in the story. the first question I asked was “how do you fish for men?!” Some of the kids said answers like “praying, teaching, preaching, loving people..” etc. after asking a couple more, I asked “who was Jesus and what did He do?!” and out of nowhere the sweetest little boy that looked to be around 3, raised his hand and said “Jesus was the Son of God and came to earth to die for our sins because He loves us!!” TALK ABOUT CHILLS!!

Despite being out of my comfort zone, God is beginning to place so many opportunities in front of me and my team to share Jesus. Please continue to pray for us as we continue this journey! God is so GOOD!
